I recently had the joy of sitting down with Life Coach Desiree Simone on her podcast Growth on the Rocks for an episode called The Secrets to a Confident Wardrobe - and we went deep. Not shopping deep. Soul deep. Because that's really what personal style is about. Before you can build a wardrobe that works, you have to get to the core of who you are right now - and who you're becoming. That clarity is the foundation everything else is built on.
Most of the clients who find their way to me are in the middle of a life transition. They think they're reaching out because they need a stylist to help them shop or pull looks together - and yes, we do that. But the very first question I ask in every Style Consultation is "Who are you?" It's not the easiest question to ask anyone, let alone someone well-known. But I never make assumptions. And more often than not, that question stops people in their tracks - and that's exactly where the real work begins.
We also went deep on two of my favorite topics: the closet edit and inspiration. If you've ever stood in front of a full closet and felt like you had nothing to wear, that's your signal - editing your closet is how you align what's hanging in there with who you actually are right now. And inspiration? It's everywhere, not just in fashion, and the goal isn't to replicate it, it's to let it point you toward your own unique style. Desiree ends every episode with her signature question: if you could sit down for a drink with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be, what would you order, and what one question would you ask? You'll have to listen to find out who I chose.
